Zainab Mohamed Hassan is the Founder & Chairwoman of Somali Gender Equity Movement (SGEM), a global movement that advocates for and promotes women’s social and economic justice, as well as political equity in the public decision-making arena. She also works as a consultant and researcher for international and local organizations. Previously, Zainab was a Program Officer for The Minneapolis Foundation (TMF), and led the Foundation’s strategic focus area of Transform Education and Capital grants of the community grant making. Zainab has more than 20 years of professional experience working in academic, public, private, non-profit, and philanthropy sectors, and she has served on several advisory boards and committees for local, national and international organizations.

Zainab holds a Masters of Public Affairs (MPA) from the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs (University of Minnesota) and was awarded the Best Individual Masters of Public Affairs Paper for the 2006 graduating class. She also graduated with honors from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia earning a B.S. in Environmental Health with a minor in Chemistry. Zainab also participated in the James P. Shannon Leadership Institute program, and has been the recipient of several fellowships, notably The Funders’ Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities’ PLACES Fellowship; the Upper Midwest Human Rights Fellowship; and the Otto Bremer Foundation’s Graduate Fellowship on Philanthropy and Human Rights.

Ahmed Yusuf currently works as a Monitoring and Evaluation Advisor for Somalia’s National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC). He is one of the driving forces of NIEC’s strategic team mandated to pursue one person one vote national elections in 2020. Ahmed has been involved in project/program management since 1994 and has been as an independent consultant for over the last five years. His knowledge in program designing, planning, implementing, monitoring and controlling has earned him awards. His accomplishments include transforming twenty-five Somali entrepreneurs into a medium enterprise by providing an upfront and honest feasibility assessments, as well as tailoring their needs into specific projects and applying systematic management processes. Ahmed studied Agriculture at Somali National University between 1987 and 1990. He also acquired a bachelor’s degree in Business Studies (2007) from Southampton Solent University. After a decade of applying best practices of project management skills, he received his MSc in Applied Project Management (2016) from the University of West London, United Kingdom.

Mahad Wasuge is the executive director of Somali Public Agenda. He has more than 5 years of research and teaching experience in Somalia. Mahad holds Master of Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Roehampton in London. Prior to that, he earned a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Mogadishu University and diplomas in law and English. Mahad’s research interests focus broadly on governance, democratization, civil service reform, public finance, constitutional development, post-conflict justice, and migration.
