The Role of Civil Society in Promoting Accountability

Accountability and transparency are fundamental pillars of good governance. In fragile and post-conflict contexts like Somalia, where state institutions are still in the process of development and consolidation, civil society organizations (CSOs) play a critical role in holding public institutions accountable, advocating for citizen interests, and promoting open governance.

However, Somali civil society often faces challenges such as limited capacity, lack of access to information, weak coordination, and limited civic debates. To strengthen the ability of CSOs to serve as watchdogs and partners in governance, there is a pressing need for targeted training and knowledge sharing.

This 5-day training program will equip Somali CSOs with the knowledge, tools, and strategies to effectively promote accountability, engage with public institutions, and advocate for transparent governance at all levels.
